The Simplicity of our Salvation

The Simplicity of our Salvation

It is my opinion that one of the 'easiest to understand' topics in scripture is our salvation through the grace gospel today. But on the other hand, it is also the topic that has largely been complicated, distorted and pulled out of context because of mixing up scriptures based on the gospels that belong to other dispensations and people groups.

In this short discourse, I'd like to address what the Bible says about our salvation, keeping it in the right context, and proving its simplicity, which is the singular act of placing our faith in the work of Christ on our behalf.

Unlike the gospels of other dispensations which depend on works, and laws, and observances, and conditions, our grace gospel is plain and simple. Our gospel, and the salvation it brings, is already complete, and simply needs to be received. There is nothing else that is tied to it that needs to be done or observed or earned. The simplicity of our gospel is clearly highlighted in this passage of scripture below,

Rom.5:15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. 17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

We do not need to concern ourselves with Moses and the laws he received, or with Abraham and the promises he received. Our gospel message only deals with two persons. Adam and Jesus.

Adam disobeyed, was condemned, and received the penalty of death. Since we are all of Adam, and all under the penalty of his offence, we all inherit death and separation from God. (Romans 3:23)

But, for God's grace and love towards us, Jesus obeyed, demonstrated righteous, and provided us justification and the gift of life. The scripture says,

Phil.2:8 He became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

This gift of life is freely given to those who choose to believe it and respond to it by placing their trust in the cross work that Christ did for us.

So, at the end of it all, the gospel places all of us on one side of the ledger or the other. You are either found in Adam, or you are found in Christ. We didn't choose to be born in Adam, but we were. Our position in Adam is what is the issue and requires that we believe on what Christ has done for us through the power of understanding and responding to gospel of grace.
